In preparation for my non-binary month next month, I am reading Transgender History and it mentions something called “walk the categories” as an activity done at large “costume balls where people compete for best enactment of a multitude of very highly stylized gender categories”.
Is it just me does that sound like a lot of fun?
Also, the same book later covers that Glide Memorial United Methodist Church was a big part of the initial homosexual and transgender movement in the 1960’s. I didn’t expect a church to be a part of this movement, and I didn’t expect to look at their website and still see a message about loving one another unconditionally and extending a hand out to help the marginalized and impoverished. I’ve never been happier to be a Methodist.
