July, Independence and Oppression

This month will bring with it the United States’ anniversary of our independence. It’s a pretty exciting time here with lots of celebration. As a country, we are pretty independent and able to make our own decisions regularly. Its citizens, the citizens of partner and friend states aren’t as lucky. Even our heightened independence in the U.S. still doesn’t provide a life that is free of oppression. Sometimes, I wonder if the greater reason for this is because every group is trying to oppress every other group, consciously or not.
This month, I will be taking a look at those oppressive behaviors that have recently garnered the most visibility.
