The Indian Sanitary Pad Revolutionary

In this great article from BBC, we learn about one very unique, driven and inspirational man who saw a need for affordable sanitary pads in his village and made it his goal to fill that need.  After much trial and tribulation (nearly losing his wife, mother and village in the process), he designed his own simple yet ingenious machine that could manufacture sanitary pads.  He has distributed the machines to over 1,300 villages across 23 states in India and is expanding to 106 countries across the world, including Kenya, Nigeria, Mauritius, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.

He not only provided a solution to an important hygienic issue in India (nearly 70% of reproductive diseases in India are caused by poor menstrual hygiene) but he also found a way to help women provide for themselves and for their fellow women.  Additonally, he’s helping to keep girls in school, as many quit school…
